I have been watching VT play Tulane in the Military Bowl

I was reminded of three of the worst events in my life. I have attended around 200 Virginia football games in person, and our Military Bowl game against Navy ranked in the top three most frustrating games I ever witnessed. This was compounded by the fact that this was one of the coldest days of my life. Lastly, in spite of leaving the stadium a couple of minutes before the end of the game, the traffic getting out of the parking lot was as bad as any that I have ever endured. I have enjoyed some memorable days and evenings attending Virginia football, basketball, and baseball games, but this was one event that I would love to forget.

Heads up on this weekend...

Though we fully expect some very good portal news to drop at some point today I just wanted to let everybody know that we'll once again be taking a couple of days off for Christmas, so outside of breaking news things will be quiet through to Tuesday. As always, if anyone needs anything email is the best way to get in touch.

So, to all of those who celebrate: Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Prediction: Dominos start falling tomorrow

There's been talk of FSU, Clemson, etc leaving the ACC for a while now. I think the dominos start falling tomorrow after the emergency board meeting FSU called. They've been thumping their chest louder and louder for a while now. Yes, FSU was screwed over, but with so much money at stake now the NCAA couldn't take another risk after TCU's debacle during last year's championship. How do you respond to being screwed over? Many people respond by doing something irrational. And I think that's what FSU will do tomorrow.
The ACC already changed revenue sharing and expanded West. There aren't many more material financial changes that can be made that the schools with less resources will support. And even if the conference did acquiesce, you still have to deal with Clemson's loss of status. They're recent mediocrity pulled down everyone's perception of the ACC as a football conference (for those that still held a positive perception of the ACC as a football conference). FSU is going to conveniently forget their long run of mediocrity while Clemson say atop the conference...but that's a footnote that no one cares to read at this point.
The saving grace could be that the SEC or B1G may not want FSU as their TV contracts are so large that the addition of one school wouldn't move the needle enough. If so, it's not financially practical for them to leave. That means they have to take Clemson (and others?) with them.
Maybe I'm completely wrong and I'll watch the new FSU-Stanford rivalry develop over the next decade. Maybe the ACC pieces it together like the Big 12 managed to do. Or maybe it's a Pac12 redux. I just hope UVA can grab UNC and hold on tight. That seems like the best option for them regardless of the outcome...because all the king's horses and all the king's men couldn't put Humpty together again.

Class of 2025's Stevens talks Bennett, UVa, and timeline

Class of 2025 guard Adrien Stevens was excited to see head coaches in attendance watching him last weekend, including UVa’s Tony Bennett. @HoustonWilson talked to the Bullis standout about the Hoos, where things stand in his recruitment, and much more.

Hot start propels Virginia to a 82 - 56 win over Fordham

Led by Kymora Johnson, Virginia jumped out to a 27 to 7 lead in the first period. Johnson made 6 of 7 three pointers and scored 20 points to lead the offense. She also led the team with 7 assists. Clark added 15 points, and Taylor scored 10 and led the team with 8 rebounds. Virginia outrebounded Fordham 39 to 32, but lost the battle on the offensive rebounds 7 to 12, but Fordham was aided by the fact that they missed 44 of 64 shots while Virginia missed only 27 of 58 shots. The team was 12 for 22 from behind the arc. and 8 of 11 from the foul line. The Cavs were leading 66 to 34 after three periods, but some questionable passes and poor shooting in the 4th period allowed Fordham to close the scoring gap.

Michigan Recruiting Violations - Committee's best conclusion

With Harbaugh now being found as having recruiting violations, in addition to other problems at Michigan, why not declare them ineligible for the Championship Series this year and invite FSU in their place. It would answer a lot of questions countrywide for this year and the future, it would send notice to all schools that they would be ineligible if they had recruiting violations, and it would eliminate this year's question of how an undefeated Power 5 team gets left out.
As a side benefit, it might encourage FSU to remain in the ACC.

Rhode and other non contributors

If Rhode can not score where does he contribute except for turn overs and no D? I would rather Kalyn Band or Gertrude and let the learn when Rhode shows he can not score ate all, even a lay up. And Murray, what did he ever contribute for the multiple minutes he got? Gertrude will learn not to drive through multiple arms and hands and hopefully shoot FTs. And I could hardly believe the layups Dunn missed tonight. They will get netter but it needs to be soon, and McNeeley stands around too much and needs to get in the game to make shots.

NSD 2023: Live Thread...

The day has arrived for (most of) those in the class of 2024! Letters of intent will start rolling in shortly and Ferber will have updates throughout the day in this thread once things have become official.

New this year: Tony Elliott has his standard NSD presser at noon and then there's a planned two-hour recruiting "show" starting at 2 p.m. that will be streamed on the official website as well as ACCN+ which will feature Elliott, his coordinators, and position coaches. If you're not able to watch, it'll be archived on the official site as well and they'll also be posting the presser once the show has concluded.

As always, have at it folks...
