How many wins do we need to be a 1 seed? I think Michigan State will get a 1, so UNC either needs to lose early (Pitt or Cuse will be tough) or before finals, or we need to make the finals and beat them.

Michigan State is playing too well and I can't see the ACC getting two 1 seeds. Our luck will be ending up the 2 in the Michigan State bracket. I watched them yesterday and Forbes is the X factor on that team because he shoots the 3 ball well.

No. 2-seed UVa will play Thursday night at 7 p.m. against the winner of the No. 7 Clemson/No. 10 Georgia Tech matchup. The game will be televised by ESPN.

Even though they didn't win a title (lost in the title game) they really laid the foundation for future titles. That team also had a JR PG (Amaker) who returned like we will with LP.

With the chance of UVA sharing the regular season championship when Miami lost. I lost my way, and feel so unclean. The confession of insurrections is supposed help the the healing process. I rooted for VT today, and to make it even worse I was prepared to root for DUKE. I have already called the EAP representative, and have appointments set up for next week. I cannot see the path to healing. The UVA convincing win over UL makes me feel a bit better.

The wife and boys are away this weekend, how will I be able to face them Sunday evening when they return? With this hollow empty feeling, what do i possibly have to offer them. Betraying the Cardinal rules of being a HOO, Thou shalt never root for a Hokie or Duke to win in anything.

After Kirven hit the 3, look at the bench (and Bennett's) reaction. If genuine joy for a teammate doesn't define what TB and this program are about, then I'm not sure what would.

Virginia Earns Series-Opening Defeat of Monmouth, 4-2
Jones works 7 1/3 innings for second win of season

The No. 8 Virginia baseball team opened its three-game series with Monmouth with a 4-2 victory Friday at Davenport Field. UVA starter Connor Jones (Jr., Chesapeake, Va.) pitched 7 1/3 innings to earn the win as Virginia (6-3) scored its third straight victory.

“Connor did a nice job pitching into the eighth inning, which was important,” Virginia head coach Brian O’Connor said. “He was very efficient with his pitches, and we did enough to win the game. He certainly didn’t have his best stuff, but he gave us a chance to win, which is key in Game 1 of the series.”

Jones (2-0) gave up two earned runs, six hits and four walks while striking out five. Relievers Kevin Doherty (Sr., Laytonsville, Md.) and Alec Bettinger (Jr., Woodbridge, Va.) retired the final five batters in order to finish off the game. Bettinger notched his third save with a perfect ninth inning. Monmouth starter Frank Trimarco (1-1) took the loss after allowing four runs (three earned), six hits and two walks in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out five.

Matt Thaiss (Jr., Jackson, N.J.) homered for UVA, while Andy Weber (Fr., Aurora, Ohio) went 2-for-3 as the Cavaliers finished with six hits. Monmouth (2-6) also recorded six hits, with Shaine Hughes and Dan Shea each picking up a pair.

Virginia was hitless for 3 1/3 innings before Thaiss took a 3-2 pitch and deposited it over the wall in right-center field for his first home run of the year.

Monmouth knotted the score in the sixth inning. With runners at second and third base and two out, Chris Gaetano hit a grounder up the middle that second baseman Ernie Clement (So., Rochester, N.Y.) dove to keep on the infield. Hughes scored on the play, but Jones was able to leave the bases loaded on a Ryan Bailey groundout to keep the tie in tact.

The Cavaliers promptly responded with a pair of runs in their half of the sixth. After Weber hit a leadoff bunt single, Adam Haseley (So., Windermere, Fla.) was hit by a pitch and Clement bunted the runners over. Thaiss was intentionally walked to load the bases, and Pavin Smith (So., Jupiter, Fla.) lined a sacrifice fly to left field. Daniel Pinero (Jr., Toronto, Ontario) followed with a single up the middle to score Haseley.

UVA pushed its lead to 4-1 in the seventh inning. With one out, Cameron Simmons (Fr., Royersford, Pa.) reached on an error, and Weber and Haseley followed with singles to load the bases. Facing reliever Kyle Aijan, Clement lifted a sac fly to left field to plate Simmons.

Monmouth cut its deficit to 4-2 in the eighth as Hughes and Shea started the inning with back-to-back singles and Christian Holland followed with a sacrifice fly.

The teams continue the series with 1 p.m. games on Saturday and Sunday.

After the game, O’Connor announced that catcher Robbie Coman (right elbow) and outfielder Jake McCarthy (right toe) will miss the rest of the season with injuries.

I have never been a huge fan of Pitino. I am still not sure I am, but man has he won me over at least some. He really seems to be real in his love for his kids and he absolutely has major respect for UVa hoops and TB. He hasn't been an angel, I know, and if he weren't so complimentary of our guys and program I might would feel the same as I always have, but I softened on him.

Win or at least play for the national title - #2 behind only Ralph

Sweet 16 or earlier exit - Top 10, but a tier below those guys

Regardless of how the season ends, Malcolm has been the model Hoo on the court and in the classroom for 5 years, and should have his number retired.

In the latest installment of the CavsCorner Podcast, we'll look back at UVa's wins over the Tar Heels and Tigers and break down why the one in Fake Clemson might be more impressive.
