Henderson opening things up...

We'be been telling you about three-star linebacker Jaquan Henderson for a while now and coming off of the weekend, we told you about the connection Henderson has made, as mentioned in the update on Joey Blount. Well tonight the UCLA commit has decided to open things up. Could mean good things for UVa down the road...

Well, all that tiebreaker talk was just silly ...

Canes insure that the Hoos have a double-bye. Would be nice to avoid the 4-5 game, but ND appears to be leaking a bit of oil, so maybe the drop is 4 to 5 and not 5 to 6. It might not matter.

Chokies up fairly substantially on the Panthers at the moment. Maybe them getting Miami in Bleaksburg isn't entirely far-fetched. Sadly, we have to root for the Chokies and Dookies on the same day (although the latter in what I call the double forfeit game ... the only truly way to be happy in a UNC-Duke contest is for 18 guys to sprain their ankles and both teams have to forfeit for being unable to play).

Baseball Question

Where is Derrik Casey? I see he has no stats thus far, which leads me to believe he is injured. Possibly the same injury that shut him down last year? I thought he would crack the rotation this year, maybe Saturday starter. Just wondering for those who have the information. Thanks.

Before we enter post-season, some thoughts on this season so far.

I think we all realize that had Justin Anderson returned, UVA would likely be the top team in the nation. Anderson was the team's heart. Brogdon is the team's soul and backbone, but Anderson was the heart and his dynamic play is one of the two elements this team is missing this year. The other element we are missing is the post defender in the Akil Mitchell, Darion Atkins mode. I think that is a crucial piece in Tony's defense and there's no question that we missed it early in the ACC season.

All that being understood, I think the job Tony has done this season so far with this group of players is better than what he did the prior two seasons, and Tony was clearly the ACC COY the last two seasons. Without an established 3rd perimeter starter and without a strong post defender, Tony has had to mix and match and find the right chemistry from one game to the next. The Clemson game was another example of Tony having to find the right combination to win the game. He went small and received strong performances from Hall and Shayok.

When you look at the teams that are being considered for 1st seeds in the NCAA tournament; Villanova, UNCheat, Michigan State, Kansas; they're all considerably more talented than UVA. The difference has been how Tony has taken a group of players, achieved total buy-in to his scheme and the team concept. I cannot look at our roster and believe we are the #4 team in the nation. It is just an amazing coaching job.

I don't know how far we will go in the tournament this year but I am convinced our best days are ahead of us.

4 guard lineup

It looked like Tony went to a 4 guard lineup for a lot of the second half with Shayok, Hall, LP, and Brogs, with AG as the only big. What did you all think about that? I hadn't seen that for long stretches before. Both IW and Tobey didn't have it tonight so maybe that had something to do with it.

Rank your five best players of the Bennett era and short reasons why

1). Malcolm Brogdon- he has been a shut down defender the past two seasons and our leading scorer. When the game is on the line, of all the players on this list, you want the ball in Malcolm's hands. He is cutthroat and icy cold.

2). Mike Scott- probably would have had two dominant seasons if not for getting hurt and taking the redshirt before his final year. He was starting to blossom and the performance against Minnesota was vintage Scott senior year stuff. Probably should have won ACCPOTY but you know Carolina bias and we hadn't quite arrived yet.

3). Justin Anderson- this may raise an eyebrow but he gets the nod over my number 4 just because of his sheer will and ability to take over games in a multi faceted way. This is what separates the great ones from the good players. He saved our butts in as many games as anyone not named Brogdon.

4). Joe Harris- Joe was a corner turning recruit and it almost feels amiss to mention him in that way without naming Akil Mitchell. Joe was a tireless worker and a great representative of the program. The only reason he is not higher is his performance at crunchtime lags behind the first three. He did provide us with an all time great memory as he pulled up and drained the three pointer to break Duke's back in the ACCt championship game. Thank you, Mr. Harris!

5). London Perrantes- I sat courtside three years ago and watched this kid run the offense against VCU at the JPJ. I posted that night that this kid was going to be a star. It was evident from the jump that he was going to steward this offense for 4 years. And while others get All ACC accolades and get to thank family, God, coaches, and teammates, every single player honored by the ACC in one fashion or the other should personally walk up to London and thank him, thank him for being so selfless and for being the straw that stirs the drink.

Brad football weekend

Very early on a Monday after the weekend which should have been a big success with great weather and a great basketball game with a crowd that BM can point to and say to recruits look what you could be playing in front of, 40 to 50,000 rabid fans at Scott if you come here and we win as I know we will. Yet no commits as of yet. Does that surprise you. I think you felt that we might get one or two over the weekend.

CavsCorner Video: Gill talks about bouncing back

After scoring just 12 points combined in UVa's previous two games, senior forward Anthony Gill stepped it up on Saturday in the 79-74 victory over North Carolina. After posting a 15-point, 9-rebound effort in the win, Gill talked about the funk he's been in offensively, how he was able to work his way through it, the effort it took to beat UNC, why as someone from the Tar Heel State the game is a fun one for him, and much more.
