ACC/Big 12 Football Conference Championship Deregulation

Can somebody dumb this down for me? NCAA votes on it next week?

As I understand it, they want to be able to determine their own conference championship matchup rather than be required to go by division winners. Is that right?

And the ACC wants to switch to three football divisions and have the two highest rated division champions play for the title? Are we expecting ND to sign on if this happens or will one division have one less team?

If the proposal fails, does that change anything? A poster on another forum said that the Big 12 would likely expand, bringing in BYU and Cincy.

From a quick Googling it sounds like most people expect it to pass, unless the Big Ten can stop it.

I'm assuming any divisional changes would be several years down the road.

A credit to women's college basketball!

I stopped and thought about how cool it is to see UVA playing ohio state or duke playing Kentucky- Mich st and so on and so forth with two big schools playing each other. I remember years ago seeing the top women's programs UConn, Tenn, duke and others always play each other out of conference and thought how stupid it was that men's basketball did not do this other than those stupid invitationals that teams used to avoid each other at. Now I believe thanks to women's basketball of all things showing up other sports (probably out of no other choice) in terms of not being afraid to have the best play the best every year we have the invitationals, big 10 acc challenge, and some just great one on one games. The other part is now that it has been proven successful in basketball they are trying it in football with the kickoff games! To think it all started at least in my head with women's basketball is crazy.

Latest on De'Andre Hunter

Hunter scored 35 points as Friends' Central defeated Haverford 68 - 57 on December 21. He was 11 for 15 including 3 for 4 from behind the arc, and he made 10 of 11 free throws. He added 11 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 blocks. He scored 28 points in his next game in which Friends' lost 56 - 53. He scored the last 8 points for Friends' in the last 2:10 of the game. On December 30 Hunter scored 22 points in a 64 -59 win over Abington. He had 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Hunter is averaging better than 23 points per game and has had 4 double doubles in twelve games.

This was a terrible loss

I don't intend to overreact, we aren't doomed, I don't want TB fired, I don't want anyone benched, but let's call it like it is this was a very very bad loss. At least it was on the road but that's not much solace. Just a really demoralizing showing.

The other top 4-5 teams in the league won't lose to the cellar dwellers and as a result we are going to have to steal one somewhere to get atop the league.

Clemson-OU

Watching this game kind of makes me sick to my stomach in the sense that there in the London era we were so obsessed with power football it made our offense look like something run out in the 1980s compared to what most teams are running, outside of the second game that is being played tonight between Alabama and Michigan State. I'm not super familiar with BYU, what type offense do they bring to the table? Other than the games they played against us I honestly haven't paid that much attention to them.

Similar to the sweep in baseball.....

Last nights game reminds me a lot of when Tech swept us in baseball early in conference play last year. Not saying the basketball team is going to win a national title(its can compete for one) but in the big picture this game is pretty meaningless. When March roles around we will still be in the hunt and they wont, the fan base will disappear in the coming weeks, and TB will use this to make this team better. For whatever reason we seem to play very badly in the barn they play basketball in, we have tried over the past few years to drop one there so I wasn't overly surprised by how bad we looked last night. I knew I was going to find this stat this morning too, LeDay prior to last night was 2-12 from beyond the arc, an impressive 16.7%. While it should have NEVER come down to it, the lack of call at the end the game was absurd, anyone who saw TB's reaction can realize how bad it was. It sucks and its a bad L, but nothing this team wont recover from, its nuts but I didn't even get to upset over last night.

Time for Tobey to regain his starting spot at Center?

I for one think that its time for Mike Tobey to supplant Wilkins as the starter at Center. While I like the pop that Tobey brings off the bench, Wilkins could bring a high energy off the bench that seems to be missing a bit right now. And, maybe a rejuvenated Tobey could help us start off stronger in the 1st half of games.

I really thought Thompson and Wilkins had subpar games yesterday and Devon's game wasn't much better... I do love Reuter's game though - we really have to keep feeding him minutes (and get his conditioning up).

It's a journey for sure, I am not sure exactly where this team is - better or worse than last year? Better or worse than next year's team or the one thereafter? Are we really a Top 10 team (I think that we should be by the end of the season, but I don't think that we are right now)?

Football scoop?

Any news on potential verbals with the new staff, and potential transfers? I have not been on this board too much lately so if someone could point me to the right posts on here, or podcasts or any articles that may have a good summary of where we stand? Or, just as good, can anyone summarize it? TIA.

Thought for March ...

So the VT loss got me thinking (must admit I didn't see it as I had another late night at the office ... boy was that a silver lining not watching). Clearly this year is a matter of a lesser defensive team and a better offensive team.

Somebody noted earlier without the D of years past, we drop a couple we wouldn't have previously. But with the better O, we probably manage to play at a higher high level at times too. So, if we drop 2-3 games we shouldn't and manage a 13-5 or 14-4 type ACC record (say top 4 ACC finish but not champs, top 3 or 4 NCAA seed, but not a 1 or 2), but the team gets to the Elite Eight (not the F4 or Final), do you take the trade over last season? Obviously a F4 season trumps most other accomplishments ...

Just curious ...

CavsCorner Podcast: Episode 136 (with some new digs)

Today is sort of a big day for our podcast. With the redesign that's coming, the old Rivals audio file uploading is going away and though it's planned for the future there won't be any alternative with the new system. So, we've move to using Podbean, which so far is a pretty great service.

What that means for you guys is that we can now not only embed the podcasts in posts here on the board but also it also means that folks will be able to use podcast apps on their phone/tablet to listen. So you can either check us out here or search for CavsCorner on iTunes, the Apple Podcasts app on iOS, or Podbean's own app (iOS/Android) and listen whenever you want.

In today's installment of the CavsCorner Podcast, we dig into UVa's loss at Virginia Tech on Monday night. How much should folks be worried about the result? What do we expect to see from the Wahoos going forward? And what kind of response to some of the issues the Cavaliers had in Blacksburg should we look for not only during the next game but beyond?

Tech Game Thoughts

Our size was a factor early.

DH will pay off later in the year. Teams playing off of him will home to hurt them.

Tobey picked up his second because we can't get a loose ball.

Their speed in transition hurt us when we turned it over or didn't get back.

Gill is such a man vs. most teams. Love his game. Making that JB Sr year leap.

JR will play more this year.

Anyone hate Cory doing our games? Loved him as a player, but give us some damn credit.

Smaller lineups give us issues, we played super sloppy in the first half.

Well, we know which guy improved his shooting in the off season. LP is damn ice cold.

If we keep shooting 3's this way in March...

How lucky was the kid from Tech from 3? Rivalry games bring out the lucky in some.

Some of these foul calls were homer calls for sure.

Why was Nolte in during the second half when he can't hit the side of a barn? I didn't think we had a big in FT during the second half.

We got split too many times tonight. Like the times we forgot our calling card. No way Allen should have gotten some of those looks.

Our size on the boards helped us tonight. That was the trade off to their quickness.

Our offense late in the game started to become 1 on 1. Some of it was us, some of it was Tech being active.

Bottom line is quicker teams will give us issues. Tech hit a lot of tough shots, but the lapses in defense tonight were hard to overcome in this game because it happened too much. We went away from pounding the ball inside.

RPI only went from 4 to 8

VT is up to #112 so not quite as "bad" a loss as I first thought as far as seeding when it comes to NCAA's. As long as they can stay in the top 150 or so it really won't be that bad; loss on the road to a rival early in the year.

Don't get me wrong, I was really concerned with the defense, the effort, and the turnovers but I feel like those are all things TB can fix. So while it really sucks to happen to that team, and it sucks to watch LeDay knocking down 3's like he's Dirk Nowitzki or something, and watching the refs swallow their whistles on that last play was bs, I feel a little better today. We just better kick their butts on the return game!!

Perspective

Duke last year had 2 terrible losses early in ACC play last year, one of them being a 20 point blowout to Miami at Cameron.

I think everyone would be satisfied if UVa's season finished out like theirs did.

All is not lost. Regroup, refocus. Get back to winning.
