Someone call Nico’s agent

Tell them we will give 2 mill with a 1 mill bonus if the team beats tech. He can sit out the playoffs and acc championship if he wants. If he stays two years and beats tech twice with one at tech his escalator clause includes a statue in the front of the stadium, free box seats for life, and a complimentary free athlete degree from UNC. I think that’s a heck of a deal and well worth the money lol.

Transfer Cornerback Target...

UVa is set to host Stanford transfer Julian Neal on a visit (Chris Hummer from 247 first to report) Neal transferred from Fresno State to Stanford in the offseason and reentered the portal last week after the coaching change at Stanford. UVa will have to fight off a lot of other schools for this one as Neal will be one of the top available defensive players in the spring portal window, but we've been hearing that Virginia is still pretty flush with NIL resources so maybe that will give them a puncher's chance here. There's certainly a need at the position especially now that Jam Jackson is sidelined.

Braxton Key

I was blown away when I saw this tweet and then found this article that Key has improved so much. I knew he had been in the NBA briefly with Detroit and Philly, but didn't realize he had a 20 game run with Denver and now is with Golden State and did so well in the G league this year. Real testament to not only his work ethic and commitment, but also the foundation that Tony Bennett built for so many players that have made it to the NBA that nobody would have guessed would have been able to. Of course he's had the higher profile ones like Brogdon, Hunter, Murphy, etc.., but there are also those like Key, Guy, Jerome, Beekman, Gill, Tobey, Perrantes, etc that all have played in the NBA (and those like Jerome, Gill and now Key have stuck around for many years). I hope Odom can develop the same track record.

Sam Hauser

Today going 3-3 from the line finished the season 8-8 on Free Throws (or 11-11 if today's stats aren't included in the ESPN season totals) to become only the 3rd player ever (min of 1000 minutes played). Pritchard was 21-21 when he did it a few years ago. Tony Snell was 32-32 in 19/20 and 11-11 the following year so he did it twice. Hard to believe Hauser attempted so few free throws.

HOOSIERS RECOLLECTIONS

Last night after watching a delayed recording of the Braves game, I was not sleepy and was longing for the days when UVA Basketball was actually relevant so I got on Amazon Prime and watched Hoosiers again for about the tenth time. Two question for Board members: (1) Early on 2 players walked off at the first practice, leaving five. Then one player was brought back by his father bringing the number on the team to 6. Then Jimmy came back making 7. By the time of the regional final and the championship game there were 8 players on the tram, with the 8th player being apparently the first kid who walked off who came back. But that other player rejoining the team was never explained in the movie. Anyone know the story behind that? (2) In the championship game, the game action seemed to go right through to the 4th quarter with no halftime and no halftime score or speech or strategy like in many other games they played. Anyone know why that happened? Great movie but have noticed that flaw several times on rewatching, sort of like Bruce Willis' tee shirt changing colors halfway through n the first Diehard movie.

2025 Spring Game Thread

Greetings from a chilly and overcast Scott Stadium, where we're set for the Blue/White game at Noon. Game will be broadcast on ACCN.

Usually UVa gives us a comprehensive list of guys that won't play today, when we get closer to kickoff. If we get it, I'll post it here. Here's the official roster from UVa: https://storage.googleapis.com/virginiasports-com/2025/04/2025-UVA-Football-Spring-Game-Rosters.pdf

We'll have updates here throughout the game today. The format is pretty close to a regular game. Four quarters, the first 1.5 quarters will be normal clock and then they'll go to a running clock the rest of the game. There will be TV timeouts and a shorter halftime. QB's will be in no-contact orange jerseys.

Spring Game Visitors List

I was able to confirm a handful of prospects who will be on campus today. Will of course ,be more than just these players, plenty of local talent.

Transfer Commitment! UVa lands UC Irivine Forward Devin Tillis

UVa landed their first commitment out of the dead period this evening, with UC Irvine forward Devin Tillis choosing Virginia. Tillis entered the portal this week after finishing up in the NIT.

Tillis, an LA native, is a smaller forward who can stretch the floor and has been a solid rebounder. Tillis scored 13.7 points per game this year with the Anteaters, and grabbed 7.8 boards per game. He shot 39.5% from three as well. I'll update the projected roster and so on after I scarf down some food.

Commitment! UVa adds BYU transfer guard Dallin Hall

Another player on board for UVa and another experienced and talented guard. Dallin Hall announced his commitment tonight on Instagram. He comes to UVa with one year of eligibility remaining and can play PG or off-ball guard. He averaged 6.8 points and 4.2 assists per game for the Cougars this year, and 9.0 points and 5.1 assists the year before. Career 35.9 percent three-point shooter. UVa now has 5 scholarships remaining.

Hoos humble VCU 13 - 0 in 7 innings

Pitching was led by Hodges, who held VCU to two singles in five innings on the mound. Koenen and Colucci each allowed one single in one inning pitched. The top three hitters in the Virginia lineup (Teel, Becker, and Ford) had six hits in eleven official trips to the plate, six RBI, and scored nine runs. Becker had the only home run. Wells, Didawick, and Nunnallee each had 2 RBI.

Injury Updates from Tony Elliott

As we mentioned last week, Monroe Mills suffered a serious knee injury recently. Elliott made it official this evening, announcing that Mills tore his acl and will miss the entire season. Obviously a blow, but UVa has more depth on the OL than they have in a long time and still have time to get a replacement via the portal.

Cornerback Jam Jackson suffered a long-term knee injury as well, but is still being evaluated.

The roster for Saturday's spring game is here. Will have a game preview out tomorrow morning: https://storage.googleapis.com/virginiasports-com/2025/04/2025-UVA-Football-Spring-Game-Rosters.pdf

Transfer Commitment! UVa lands VCU wing Martin Carrere

UVa landed their fourth transfer this morning, with VCU wing Martin Carrere committing to UVa. He entered the portal last week. Carrere is a 6-foot-8 wing from Pontonx-sur-l'Adour, France who redshirted this year. VCU's bio labels Carrere as an "elite shooter," and he played for the French U-18 team in FIBA. He'll have four years of eligibility.

Looks like the girls picked up 6'5" Australian forward Adeang Ring that transferred from Central Florida U her Freshman year to UVA

Ring played in 23 games as a true freshman at UCF this season, logging 12.5 minutes per game. She averaged 3.7 points and 3.2 rebounds with 12 blocks, 9 steals, and 8 assists on the season. She had at least 7 points in 5 games.

Ring’s best outing came against Oklahoma State in January when she had 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals. That came during a 10-game stretch where she received 16+ minutes in all but one contest. It started with three straight games where she put up 9 points with 3 rebounds against TCU, the season-best effort against Oklahoma State, and 9 points with 11 rebounds against Iowa State.

We are going to miss Latimore for sure, but this young lady seems to be more capable than the two 6'7" girls that transferred.
