Hungate gives Virginia some relief in 8-7 defeat of Georgia Tech

Coady started on the mound for Virginia and pitched 4.1 innings and gave up 2 runs on 2 hits, 5 walks, and 1 hit batter He was replaced by Woolfolk wit 1 out in the 5th inning. Woolfolk did not allow a base runner in the 5th or 6th inning but got into trouble in the 7th inning ; an error, walk and a double produced a run. Tonas came in to pitch; he faced one batter whose single plated 2 more runs He was replaced by Hungate who gave up 2 hits and allowed 1 more run before getting out of the inning. He then pitched the next 4 innings allowing only a singe run in the 9th inning..
After Tech scored a run in the 2hd inning, Ference led off in the bottom of the inning with a home run. The Yellow Jackers scored once in the 3rd inning and took a 2-1 lead into the 6th inning. The Cavs got 3 runs when Whalen was hit by a pitch, Saucke singled, and both scored on a home run by Ford. A single by Anderson, 2 walks, an error, and sacrifice fly by O'Ferrall added three more runs and gave Virginia a 7-2 lead. Tech scored 4 runs in the 7th inning to narrow the lead to 7-6 before Tech knotted the score at 7 in the 9th inning. Neither team seriously threatened until the 11th inning. Hanson led off with a double, went to third on a long fly, and scored the winning run on a single up the middle by Whalen.
Georgia Tech out hit Virginia 10 to 9, but Virginia had the only 2 home runs in the game. Hungate was the winning pitcher and improved his record to 4-0.

Virginia rebounds with 11 - 5 win over George Mason

The Cavs were out hit by George Mason 15 to 14 but used 2 doubles, triples, and home runs and 3 double plays to secure the victory. Mason had 9 hits in the first 5 innings but was held to 2 runs because of the double plays. They scored 2 more runs in the top of the 6th inning to tie the score at 4 each. Virginia responded for three runs in the bottom of the inning when Ference walked and came home on a triple by Hanson; Becker followed with another triple and O'Ferrall with a double. The Cavs added to the lead in the 7th inning with 3 more runs from a home run by Becker. A home run by Ference in the 8th ended the scoring.
Moore started on th mound for Virginia and pitched the 1st inning. He gave up singles to the first two Mason batters, but a double play and a strike out prevented a score. Barker pitched the next two innings; he allowed 1 run in the 2nd inning on three singles. An error and a single put two men on base in the third with one out before another double play prevented any more runs. Osinski pitched the 4th and 5th innings; Two batters reached base on a walk (the only walked allowed by the Cavs) and a single, but again a double play got him out of a jam. Mason scored a run in the fifth on a single and a double. Tonas followed on the mound for the 6th and 7th innings. The first batter he faced in the 6th hit a home run and three consecutive singles led to a second run and a tie score He retired all three batters he faced in the 7th inning and got his first win this season. Kampschror pitched the 8th innings and allowed 1 run on a double, a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly. Augustin pitched the final inning; the first batter singled but was throne out trying to steal second; A strike out and a routine fly to center field ended the game.
Saucke led the offense with three hits and 2 RBI. O'Ferrall, Whalen, Ference, Anderson, and Becker (4 RBI) all had two hits.

Virginia baseball reverts to the norm in a 16 - 7 win over Louisville

Virginia had 13 hits including 6 home runs; Hanson was 3 for 4 with 2 solo home runs. The home run list also included Saucke (2 for 6 with 4 RBI), Ford (2 for 4 with 3 RBi), Didawick, and Becker (1 for 2 with 3 RBI). Virginia's hitting was aided by 8 walks and 3 batters hit by Cardinal pitching. Coady started on the mound for Virginia and gave up 3 runs and 5 hits in 3 innings. Hungate pitched the next four innings to improve his record to 4-0; he scattered 4 hits and 1 run. Tonas pitched the eighth inning and allowed 0 runs on 2 hits. Augustin pitched the final inning and gave up a 3 run home run to end the scoring. The Virginia offense scored in every inning except the 1st and 8th, and scored 4 runs in the 2nd, 6th, and 9th.
The only consistency in the three games was the poor announcing; today I heard more than I desired about hair, golf, dogs, and food.

Pitching, hitting, and fielding come together to produce a 21 - 3 win over Louisville

Blanco started on the mound for Virginia and pitched six innings. He scattered six hits, but two were home runs which accounted for all three Cardinal runs. His win improved his record to 4--1. Hungate pitched the seventh and eighth innings, and Menk took the mound for the final inning; neither allowed a hit. All three pitchers were aided by a solid fielding effort.
the Cavs knocked out 21 hits, which included 5 home runs with two each by Ford and Ference and one by Becker. Anderson was 5 for 5 at the plate, and Ford and Ference each had 3 hits., and O'Ferrall, Whalen, Hanson, and Becker were all 2 for 5. Virginia led 11 to 3 going into the 9th innings before roughing up Louisville's bullpen for 10 more runs.
