Ceiling as an athletic department?

Just curious with the success TB seems to be sustaining in hoops. Where does everyone see the ceiling of UVa athletics?

I think many feel that FB can only aspire to be a usually solid but only occasionally very good program. However, with the turnarounds that Oak has managed with baseball (truly historically bad program until his arrival), and now Bennett with basketball, has anyone changed their minds? Can we be perennially good in all three and able to compete for titles in all three (ACC or nattys)?

I honestly think it might be possible if Mendenhall is anything like the other two coaches. System, consistency, might take a while but we'll get there kind of mentality. Not dominating all three by any stretch of the imagination, but top 10-15 in all three in most years. And unlike Florida, Texas, or tOSU, we wouldn't be doing it with $$ and population alone ... it would sure be nice if Mendenhall was our Harbaugh without the NFL departure!

DH vs MS

Who plays when, how many min, who starts to me is difficult to get a grasp of. Thought last night MS played well and surprised he didn't play more at the end. His length on D seems to be an asset where as DH gets caught out of place and a little slow on switches. He got burned a few times last night. While I liked that DH was more aggressive with his dribble drive and shot taking he nearly turned the ball over multiple times. I sense MS is getting healthy and more consistent and he hopefully will be an x factor the rest of the way. I get the feeling that self confidence is an issue with both and TB does not want to make any major changes that might hurt either players psyche. Also on a side note anyone surprised TB didn't put on pressure on the ball coming up the court the last 5 min (except last one)? We probably gave them at least 1 free possession that could of burned us.

CavsCorner Video: Brogdon and Wilkins talk UNC win

Following No. 3 UVa's 79-74 win over No. 7 North Carolina on Saturday night, senior guard Malcolm Brogdon and sophomore forward Isaiah Wilkins talked about the effort right out of the gate, what Wilkins went through this week to get himself ready, Brogdon's mindset on both ends of the floor, the role the crowd at JPJ played in the win, and more.

ACC still complicated ...

I don't think I can ever remember a season with this many potential scenarios with two games left for everyone. It is possible (though unlikely) that every team could up with six losses, and that every team 1-9 would have either 6 or 7 losses -- talk about some tie-breakers.

The ACC is guaranteed that a six-loss team will get a double bye after Pitt's thumping of Duke today and Notre Dame tripping up last time out. Guaranteed. Obviously, as someone noted this weekend, getting a top three seed will be highly, highly beneficial.

Again it is unlikely (and most likely ends tomorrow night in Chapel Hill), that UVa has a chance at an outright title. If the Hoos do somehow catch every break to win it outright, I think I'm heading straight out to put some money on them cutting down the nets in Houston!

More on Jay Huff

On February 23, Voyager Academy defeated Lakewood 73-31 in the state tournament. Huff apparently did not play. I suspect that this was a mercy move by his coach. Two nights later Voyager defeated Riverside 97-83, and Huff scored 28 points and had 19 rebounds. Yesterday Voyager defeated Weldon 75-60. Huff scored 12 points and had 8 rebounds.

Let's go Pitt

Big win yesterday. 2 Hoos wins and a loss from Miami and UNC gets the Hoos an ACC share again.

But here's the crazy scenario still in play for an outright:

Hoos win 2 - we'll be favored in both
Pitt beats Duke (pick-em)
Miami loses at (ND will be a short fave)
Miami loses at VT (Miami will be a short fave)
UNC loses at home to Cuse (UNC will be a ~7 pt fave so the most unlikely by the #s)
UNC loses at Duke (Duke will be a short fave)

So looking above, if the favorites hold, we get a share and we would need one swing game, one big upset and one minor upset to win it outright. I realize this is a lot of games that need to break our way, but it starts today with Pitt over Duke.

Some guys caught it and the way MB was playing who would want to watch anything else, but Hicks was about to go off and Tony put the freshman in. He has the body of a sophomore-junior and wasn't afraid to bang. I loved it. Not sure why some say he has slow feet. Yes, if a team works to spread them out obviously he would have some shortcomings but against bruisers the way Michigan State has pounded us the last two years there's a reason this kid's in a UVA uniform.

Wow seems awfully quite on here after what may be our biggest win of the year.

That was a well played game all around by both teams. We have really been sounder with the double this game as Tb has got the double coming while the ball is in the air. That is the way it should always be. I am so proud of this team and MB should have put to rest any question of player of the year. Do bad IW was off on his shot tonight as we would have won by 8 to 10 if he hits those 10-12 foot jumpers like he has been. His defense was great though. And how about the job MB and others did on Justin Jackson, I was really worried about him and he was a non factor. Great win. Now let's not let down at Clemson.
