The 3-2-1: Ahead of Saturday night’s ACC opener at Wake, @justin ferber looks back at yesterday's press conference and pulls out a few takeaways as UVa gets ready to face the Deacs.
Hi all--so sorry for the inconvenience here but we ran into some technical difficulties today and I wasn't able to do live updates on the presser. Basically I wasn't able to create a thread or post anything, so it would've been pretty tough to do live updates. But UVa should send us a transcript this afternoon (and hopefully video) and I'll post everything here when I get it. Again, sorry for the delay.
Column: While UVa’s opener provided some info, @justin ferber writes, many of the answers to the questions that remain for the Wahoos will be answered very soon.
Greetings from Scott Stadium where there's about 90 minutes or so until the Hoos kick off their 2024 campaign with a matchup against the Spiders. It's currently overcast and a balmy 87 degrees. Admittedly, I can't see a good part of the sky because the new videoboard is every bit as big as the hype suggested.
I'll be back with notes and updates shortly. As always, have at it folks...
Virginia women scored two goals by Caigle and Carter in the first period and a third goal in the second period by Maki. They had 19 shots with 11 on goal and held James Madison to just three shots, none of which were on goal.
Preview: @BigGriff has our breakdown of UVa’s season-opening matchup against the Spiders tomorrow night in Charlottesville as the Hoos look to get off to a good start in 2024 (6 p.m., ACCN Extra/ESPN+).
Indiana Fever demolished Chicago Sky tonight 100 - 81. Clark shot her high WNBA score with 31 points and added 12 assists and 4 rebounds. Reese had 10 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 assists for Sky. There were quite a few of the usual intentional and/or aggressive fouls by a Chicago team that seems to be more concerned with intimidating than winning.
Virginia men controlled both halves on offense and defense. Virginia had 19 shots, 8 of which were on goal, while limiting St. Joe to 3 shots. Miller and Dang scored in the first half, and Wood, Miller (again), and Talley added second period goals.

McCarthy shot 63 today following a 66 yesterday and is currently tied for the lead in the 2nd round of the FedEx St. Jude. Should be at or very near the top at the end of the day.
