Transfer Target WR sets official visit to UVa

A name we mentioned yesterday, UNC transfer WR Andre Greene is planning an official visit to Charlottesville for the weekend of 12/15. Before that, he'll head up to Happy Valley for an official with Penn State. According to Rivals sources, Wisconsin, Florida and Tennessee are also in pursuit. Long way to go in this one and some big-time competition, but pairing Greene with Chris Tyree would be a huge boost to UVa's offense for 2024.

Four-star 2026 F Allmond talks UVa and other ACC visits

Four-star forward Latrell Allmond, No. 27 overall in 2026, talked to @HoustonWilson about UVa, what he’s heard from the Hoos, his recent trips to Charlottesville and elsewhere in the ACC, and much more.

UVa hosting transfer DB

Rhode Island CB Syeed Gibbs is currently on an official visit to UVa. Gibbs picked up an offer from Virginia last week when the staff visited him in New England. The Hoos are far from the only suitor, though. Gibbs has offers from Auburn, Tennessee, Wisconsin and others since jumping in the portal. His Rhody bio is below.

Football Roster Notes - Who has Eligibility Remaining?

With COVID and transfers, it is difficult to remember who might have eligibility remaining. I decided to put together a quick list of scholarship players who are listed as Seniors, 5th years, 6th years or Grad Students on this year's roster and their eligibility status for 2024-2025. This does not mean these players will definitely be back, but they have eligibility remaining.

Virginia women defeated Rider 78-51

Virginia was sleep walking in the first period and trailed 11-15, but they woke up in the final three periods to outscore Rider 21-12, 22-11, and 24-13. Taylor was the high scorer with 18 points and had 13 rebounds to lead the team. Smith was the second best scorer with 11, and Brown was second in rebounds with 11. Every player got at least 2 points, and all but one grabbed at least 1 rebound. The team was just 7 for 28 on three point shots and 13 of 20 foul shots.

Virginia Athletics Achieves Highest NCAA Graduation Success Rate

Wah🎓🎓wa!

“The NCAA released its annual Graduation Success Rate (GSR) data today (Dec. 6) for the 2013-14 to 2016-17 freshman cohorts. The scores for Virginia student-athletes are the highest since the NCAA began issuing the report. Cavalier student-athletes covered during the current report graduated at a 96 percent rate, a one percent increase from last year’s report that tied as the previous highest mark for UVA athletics since the NCAA launched the GSR program in 2002.”

FSU snubbed by Selection Committee

Sad state of affairs for the NCAA. This is not only a slap in the face to FSU but to the ACC as well. Wish every bowl eligible team in the ACC had the courage to say no to any bowl invitation this year in response- but there’s too much $$ involved for that to happen. So I hope that FSU beats down Georgia in the Orange bowl. At least for once I will shout GO NOLES and get my best tomahawk chop out!!!

Some Portal names to keep an eye on...

-TE Tyler Neville (Harvard)
Visited UVa recently, and is a VA guy, from Williamsburg. Neville is a really talented tight end who was All-Ivy League and would be great to pair with Chris Tyree and other returning pass catchers. We're hearing good vibes here following the visit, but UVa will probably want to wrap this up before he takes too many more visits.

-DB Syeed Gibbs (Rhode Island)
UVa staff members flew up to New England and made the rounds yesterday, and while they were up there, they offered Rams DB Syeed Gibbs. There will be a long line for this one too, with Tennessee, Wisconsin and others involved

-DB Warren Burrell (Tennessee)
Another DB the staff is looking at, Burrell has been banged up the last couple of years with the Vols, but was very good in 2021. Other programs, including Georgia Tech, are in the mix.

-WR Andre Greene (UNC)
Can UVa land another bounce-back to VA receiver. Greene is another talented portal entry, one of several from UNC, that are available. Greene played high school ball at St. Chris in Richmond, and while UVa could provide a landing spot close to home (and the UVa staff were in the Research Triangle this week...) there will be a lot of suitors here, too.

-WR Trell Harris (Kent State)
Another offer for UVa, this one coming today. Harris is a speedy slot option who made some big plays for the Flashes this fall. He's played two years at Kent, so he should have two years remaining, plus a RS year.

-K Ricky Abood (Georgetown)
UVa has reached out, according to The Portal Report (below). Would make sense if UVa is looking specifically for a kickoff specialist with Matt Ganyard gone.

McKneely jump starts Virginia to a 77-47 win over NC Central

McKneely was once again hot from behind the arc and made 6 of 8 shots from deep. His 22 points tied his personal high and led the scoring. Bond, Gertrude, and Buchanan came off the bench and score 14, 13, and 9 respectively. Bond had 9 rebounds, and Dunn and Buchanan had 6 each as Virginia had 40 rebounds to 30 by NCC.. Beekman and Gertrude led the defense as they combined to hold NCC's leading scorer to4 points on 2 for 13 shooting. Virginia had 24 assists on their 32 field goals and just 5 turnovers. Bennett was able to give a lot of playing time to the non starters as 10 of the 12 players had at least 11 minutes on the floor.

Transfer Commitment! UVa lands ND WR Chris Tyree

Virginia kicked off their transfer portal window with a big get tonight, landing Notre Dame transfer Chris Tyree. The former 4-star product played high school ball at Thomas Dale in Chesterfield, and now comes home for his final season of college football. Tyree started his career as a RB, but switched to WR and had success there, catching 26 balls for 484 yards and 3 TDs. Tyree is also a very good return man that could bring a big boost to UVa's special teams. I'll update the portal thread as well, but a good night for the UVa staff!
